Muscle Therapy

Muscle therapy has always been an integral part of our treatment.  While it has many beneficial effects, we are mainly concerned with just three.  First, by relaxing the muscles (and the patient) before a treatment, it allows for an easier and more comfortable adjustment.  For many conditions, that may be the only muscle therapy that is necessary.  The second effect has to do with it’s ability to reduce healing time.  Muscle therapy helps increase circulation and lymph drainage, two functions essential for the healing of damaged tissue.  The third effect has to do with balance.  The body hates imbalance.  If your problem is affected by the left being stronger than the right, or the front being tighter than the back, then it must be addressed if any long term results are desired.  In these cases, muscle therapy can be used to release neuro-muscular tension, break up knots and adhesions, or energize and strengthen weakened areas.  The ultimate goal is to improve the condition to a point where the patient can then maintain that more balanced muscle tone on their own.

By balancing muscle tone before an adjustment, the adjustment is easier and “holds” longer.

Manual

Which means hands on.  This includes trigger point therapy, stretching and release techniques.  Also gives us a better feel of what’s going on.

Ultrasound

A high frequency sound wave that penetrates deep into muscles. It can break up adhesions, increase blood flow and relax tight and knotted muscles.

Electric Muscle Stimulation

Our unit can be used to reduce pain and tightness. By changing polarities it allows us to also strengthen weakened muscles.
